On-Cycle Recruiting with No Return Offer

I did not receive a return offer this past summer, but managed to get a full-time offer. I know that headhunters ask if you got a RO. Does this automatically disqualify me from having a shot at most on-cycle processes from your experience? What about off-cycle. Are firms usually more understanding or will this continue to be a problem (even say 1 year into your FT role)?

Can someone confirm if this works? I have heard headhunters will ask if they see that you switched firms. I wonder if I could just say I didn't get RO because I was rerecruiting and got an offer.

Headhunters and PE firms cross-check with people in your group. Have been called in previous years to talk about the quality of work for analysts, do not see why it would change. If you didn't get a return but managed to land on your feet for FT, you should just be up front about it. Much worse to ruin a relationship with headhunters who handle recruiting throughout your career over such an easily-checkable lie.

But in off-cycle (unlike on-cycle) do they still care to reference check your summer internship? Since you have 1 year or so of FT experience, seems like the summer internship is less relevant. Correct me if I'm wrong and they call both
