Career Resources
1) Know the history of the firm and why you want to work there over other BBs 2) Know the basic idea of what you'll be doing (trade settlement, reconciliation, etc) 3) Give them the idea that you see this position as something long-term.. OPs people don't want to hire short-term ops people 4) Ask good questions. What kind of traits are you looking for in a person to join your team? What things do you guys want to improve on your team short-term? Long-term? You get the idea. 5) Be honest about your knowledge and tell them you're all about learning. Most BBs who hire for entry level positions don't want conceited douchebags who think they know everything. They want to hire someone who is willing to sit back and be molded into their system.
good luck
Thank you.. My interview is for a summer internship in Baltimore.
PM me. I know some people who work in OPs @ MS in Baltimore.
I also have an interview with Ops in MS's Baltimore office tomorrow afternoon...how did your interview go? any advice on key things to focus on?
The way rothyman gave a legit post makes me wonder if BO work at a BB is a dead-end.
No Seamless budget for Ops guys, amirite?
Define dead-end. If you want job security, decent pay, and a pretty structured routine for the rest of your career, then no it's not dead-end. If you want to ultimately be a COO and maybe have the BB pay for your grad school to achieve this position, then no it's not a dead-end at all.
However if you're purely interested in the investment side of things, then it's probably not for you. With that said, 6 months to 1 year in operations is worlds better than 1 year doing nothing finance related.
There are definitely cases of a few guys who took ops positions for a short time to learn a little bit about the industry and ultimately moved to the investment side via networking.
