Overcoming a Challenging Interview—How to Improve?

Had an interview with a director earlier today (in advanced stages of the process), and honestly, it didn’t go as well as I hoped. There was a technical question about capital raising that caught me off guard—it wasn’t something covered in the guides or aligned with my prior experience, but I managed to work through a lot of it with him. Still, I felt nervous, and the overall vibe wasn’t as strong as in previous rounds.

Despite this, I seem to have advanced to the next round. I’m wondering how I can better handle situations like this moving forward.

Any tips would be much appreciated! Kept details minimal for privacy.

Difficult to say without knowing the position you’re interviewing for (would you need to build a model in a later round?). But clearly they liked you enough to send you thro so I wouldn’t sweat it. Interviewers will often push you to see how you react not knowing something. I wouldn’t reach out about the question you got wrong, unless you personally know an associate/director, don’t want to remind them of things you didn’t know. I’d just review if you didn’t know something but focus on the business/sector/group, knowing that will likely be the most important, other than that go in with confidence, good luck!
