Passing Resume Thank You Email to Contact

An alumnus helped passing my resume a while ago and now I am having an interview with the team. Should I send an email to thank him for the help cuz it was about 1 month ago that I forwarded my resume? What is most appropriate to say?

Thanks!

thanks for passing it along email

If you have a contact that passed your resume along which led to you getting an interview, it is a nice gesture to send them a thank you email updating them on the process.

A short simple email like this is non-cumbersome for the reader and is just a nice gesture.

Good advice Gordon. I would also ask if you they would be interested in meeting up with you briefly while you are in the office interviewing. If you can get an "informational interview" with them (especially if they are higher on the food chain), manage to make a good impression, and have them put in a good word with HR, as long as you didn't completely botch your interviews you should be in good shape.

Something like this would be good:

Dear _____,

I wanted to let you know that I was invited by your team to come in and interview. Thank you again for passing on my resume. I was also wondering if you would have a few minutes to meet with me while I am in the office for my interview.

Thanks again.

Best,

Best, _______

Thank you so much!

Also, what's the best way to address an MD/VP in an email? Mr. xxx? Or just go by first name?

Thanks again!

brotherbearYou realize that you just asked if you should say 'thank you' when someone helps you, right?

Where did you learn manners? You say 'thank you' when someone brings you a cup of coffee, so of course you do likewise when someone gets you an interview.

He's just asking for advice. That's what many come to WSO for. No need to criticize this guy so chill.

I would definitely agree - a simple Thank you email for passing the resume along, in addition to mentioning that you landed an interview (this way they know what's going on with you) is all that you need.

Regarding reaching out to senior bankers, that depends. If you have not exchanged emails with them before, then I would go with Mr. Xxxx. If you have exchanged emails with them before, then it depends on how they sign their name. If they close their email with their full name, or Mr. Xxxxx, then continue to use the formal greeting. If, however, they close their email with just their first name on a more casual level, then you can refer to them as such.

Good luck.

If i passed along your email and I didn't get a thank you email I would probably cancel your interview ASAP and make sure I tell them about your cocaine problem.
