JK - can you be more specific about what you're trying to do? I think "text to columns" is worth a google if you don't know about that yet (sorry I am going off your 1992 as potentially a birth year and thinking you are a junior-ish analyst or SA, so please don't take offense if you've tried this already).

I was curious if any of you guys could help me with something. So I transfer a lot of files at my work from PDF to excel and they always come out in multiple tabs instead of one big sheet. Do any of you know how to make it to where your pdf file is created in not only one excel sheet even if it is multiple pages? Thanks and silver bananas for anyone who can help.

Hello guys! Right now I am doing an internship in an investment Bank, and one of the most time consuming things in modelling is to copy the financial statements of the companies (which are in PDF) into excel. Do you Know if there is any way to copy them faster? By the way, I have tryed with OCR programs with no succes. Thank you in advance!

Alt plus highlight using the mouse to copy multiple figures. Then paste into excel using text to cell delimiting which I usually do in a blank throwaway spreadsheet before copying over to avoid any weird ongoing side effects of the text to cell delimiting.

copy the table from Adobe and paste it into notepad, then copy from notepad and paste into Excel
This did not work for me. Do I need to do a paste special or format of some sort? The tables I am working with are the Financials from SEC filings, if that makes a difference. Thanks again

I'm trying to input a table of number data from a PDF file into excel. 3 columns and over 400 rows. I don't want to manually have to input each and every one. Copy/paste will paste the data, but only into 1 cell.

The only way I could figure out how to do it (aside from buying one of the conversion packages), was copy paste it all. It will look like a mess, but I believe you can sort it out a little if you go to Data ribbon -->Text to Columns tab and fiddle around with those settings.
Adobe Acrobat X and XI allow you to copy tables. If you're using Adobe Reader, it will paste everything into just one cell.
Exactly this, have both programs for this very reason. Adobe Acrobat X/XI you can do all times of things with PDFs.
either paste and do text-to-columns or hold alt in the PDF and it will allow you to select one column of data at a time and paste them into individual columns
If you're good, you could create a macro that should be able to take everything out of the one individual cell and then place it in to a table.

I think pdftoexcel.org only requires an email address
Doesn't work for large files and I'd rather just have a software on my drive that would allow me to do it offline also.

I'm sure this is first week at BB training stuff, but I'm working as an SA at a AM so I don't really have that luxury. I've been given a PDF with a lot of tables and financial statements and need to play around with it in excel. Is there any easy way to do this without copying and pasting the text and reformatting everything?
Under the 'Data' tab, there are a couple of options that might help you. Maybe try import data "from Text" or "text to columns"?
Alternatively, if it's like a research report, it can't hurt to actually email the analyst and ask for his model.

it's a command based thingy, very-very simple to use and works wonders converting pdf tables to txt (which you can then import to excel).
learn how to use it and you'll save yourself heaps of trouble.
there are also other software apps around that are good - depending on what you're dealing with, you'll need to try them out until you find what works for you.
I tried out XPDF but I can't get it to work... I know its a command based thing but I can't get the .exe file to open, any suggestions?
copy/paste the pdf you want to convert in the same folder as the xpdf utility, open a cmd.exe window, go to the folder where you have installed the xpdf utility through the cmd window (i.e. cd folderx, cd xpd blahblah) then type pdftotext -layout mypdf.pdf look into the folder for your new mypdf.txt file
that's all. Read the pdftotext.txt file for more info.
