PE and SWF in the Middle East

Hi all, I am a 1st year IB analyst in the european office of an american Elite Boutique (CVP/PJT/PWP). I am looking to move to a PE firm or a SWF in the Middle East (open to all countries: UAE, Qatar, Saudi Arabia etc.). Comp and work life balance are the most important things in my research. I am looking to know which are the best headhunting firms to get in contact with for positions at SWF like PIF, QIA, Mubadala, ADIA etc. Or any PE firm with large comps I don’t know about.

do these firms take analysts? Basically could I make the move before getting promoted to associate?

when do the processes for these kind of firms start ? Is it similar to american PE firms ? I am in the class of july 2024

Thanks a lot.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some insights regarding your questions about moving to a PE firm or a SWF in the Middle East:

Headhunting Firms

  • Headhunting firms: While specific headhunting firms are not mentioned in the provided context, it is generally advisable to reach out to well-known global headhunters who specialize in finance and have a presence in the Middle East. Firms like Blackwood Group, Oxbridge Group, and Amity Search Partners are often recommended for such roles.

Analyst to Associate Transition

  • Analyst to Associate: The context does not provide specific details on whether SWFs like PIF, QIA, Mubadala, ADIA, or large PE firms in the Middle East take analysts directly. However, it is common in the industry for firms to prefer candidates with at least a couple of years of experience, often at the associate level. Networking and reaching out to recruiters can provide more tailored advice.

Recruiting Process Timeline

  • Recruiting Process Timeline: The recruiting process for PE firms and SWFs in the Middle East may not be explicitly detailed in the context, but it can be inferred that it might follow a similar timeline to American PE firms. For example, based on previous WSO threads, recruiting for summer positions often starts in early 2021 for summer 2022 starts. It is advisable to prepare for a mid-September kick-off to be safe.

Additional Tips

  • Networking: Networking is crucial. Engage with recruiters and industry professionals to get on their radar.
  • Preparation: Be prepared for a mix of fit, technical, and case study interviews, similar to the processes described for American PE firms.

For more specific advice, consider reaching out to professionals currently working in the Middle East or those who have made similar transitions.
