PJT Superday Insights

Got a PJT Superday coming up

- 2x 30min behavioral

- 1x 45min technical

Has anyone any experience what this entails and whether there are specific things that I should prepare on? Thanks in advance!

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some insights and preparation tips for your PJT Superday:

Behavioral Interviews (2x 30min)

  1. Public Speaking Skills: How you speak is more important than what you speak. Ensure you come off as affable, confident, and normal. Interviewers remember your overall public speaking skills more than the content of your answer.
  2. Structured Answers: Present your thoughts in a logical order. Practice answering common behavioral questions like "a time you faced adversity in school or in an internship" with clear, structured responses.
  3. Sell Yourself: Be prepared to sell yourself. Write down interesting stories about your past experiences, problems you solved, and people you helped. This will help you convey your value effectively.

Technical Interview (1x 45min)

  1. Core Finance Knowledge: Make sure you have a solid understanding of core finance concepts. Know what a DCF (Discounted Cash Flow) is, understand the PE (Price to Earnings) ratio, and how bond price vs yield works.
  2. Firm-Specific Knowledge: Know what's been happening at PJT Partners. People in finance are very proud of their firms, so being knowledgeable about recent deals and the firm's achievements can set you apart.
  3. Deal Experience: Be ready to discuss your deal experience. Convey the highlights of your deals, your role on the team, and why the company would or would not be a good buyout target. Be familiar with relevant deal metrics and frameworks like Porter's Five Forces.

General Tips

  • Interview Format: Expect a series of back-to-back interviews, typically 3 to 5, each lasting 15 to 30 minutes. There will be a mix of technical and behavioral questions.
  • Preparation Resources: Utilize resources like the WSO Behavioral Guide and the M&I 400 Questions Guide to prepare efficiently for both behavioral and technical questions.
  • Follow-Up: Remember the names of your interviewers or get their business cards if possible. Send thank you letters after the interviews.

Good luck with your PJT Superday!

boy?? SA in October? I know they're early but it still seems like all reputable banks recognize that New Years is a date they don't wanna cross in terms of when they actually do their interviews

They've already started giving out offers fyi, so do it as soon as possible. For the behavioral part, I didn't prep much, just have a look at a recent deal you can talk about. The rest of the Qs are relatively basic TMAT. For the technical part, it is split in M&A and restru. There was a simple restru case where you need to explain what part of the debt is impaired, what solutions there are etc. Good luck!
