Prospect Rock Partners (headhunter)

Anybody have insight into Prospect Rock Partners? Search firm that has a handful of job postings - wondering if they are legit and work with good clients, or if the IB shops they work with are more LMM / niche. Thanks!

Appears to be a farm that collects comp data and CV. The founder, Meridith Fiedler Dennes, will literally crowd source data via LinkedIn polls then throws in some basic bar charts with the aim to sell said data off as “proprietary.” On that note, she will always push her “coaching / mentoring” sessions to help you prep for interviews … I view this additional “option” as a cash grab given her background is skewed towards corporate banking at both Canadian & Asian (Japanese to be specific) balance sheet banks. This begs the question of where she is sourcing her mandates (eg, M&A, Rx, Coverage) from given she never actually done that type of work. Last time she held a banking position was 2012. Specifically noting this point as she deploys the “credential tactic” as part of her marketing … her claim to fame is that she worked at “top-tier bulge bracket / global investment banks” (exact wording per her LinkedIn bio) yet was only employed at Bank of America for approximately two years (left at 2001, I believe). Not to shit on non-US banks but I wouldn’t really consider SMBC (her last banking stint) as “top-tier”. That’s a stretch — SMBC is more emerging / up and coming, IMO. If you disagree, pls ask yourself the following question: “when have I ever seen SMBC act as lead-left or make any headlines regarding a marquee M&A deal?”Further, it is unfair to not mention her periodic posts (aka “weekly briefs”) about “breaking into IB”, while simultaneously using meme pics from Wolf of Wall St, Succession, Industry, etc (you get the point). Unsure if this is her attempt to be more “relatable” but it sure comes off as cringe (at least to me). From a content POV (re: her periodic posts / briefs), nothing that she publishes is remotely insightful … lots of generic blanket statements that you can probably gather with little homework / DD. Some of her content appears to be ripped off from other platforms and rephrased (particularly on market views and macro data). My personal take is that she is trying to build a following and become some type of “guru / influencer” for the banking market (assuming for the purpose of selling her “services / expertise” once an established follower base is ramped — lots of smoke and mirrors). Her firm, Prospect Rock, is unlikely to place you (pls stick with the traditional headhunters). It’s literally an one person shop (using the term “shop” very loosely here as it’s not really legit for reasons noted)

Worked with them, very helpful, more oriented towards boutique platforms naturally given BBs have large HR teams in place

Associate 2 in IB-M&A

I can’t tell if she’s legit or not. She comes out with extremely specific needs in her LinkedIn posts (e.g., need associate 3 for FIG banking, but have 2 M&A deals announced and 1 equity deal, will give signing bonus).

Either she has the inside scoop and is extremely good and getting quality leads…or she’s full of it. But it’s one or the other.

Can confirm full of shit.
