Pushing back grad date to recruit - need help
Hi everyone, I'm in a complex situation, and I would love to hear some opinions. I'm a sophomore spring transfer (started Jan 2026) to a West Coast target school after starting my college experience at a small private East Coast school. When I was admitted here, I had an expected graduation date of December 2028, but was able to move it to Spring 2028 due to excess credits. However, I got interested in banking when I transferred (January), but by then it was already too late for 27 SA. I can easily push my graduation back to December 2028, making me eligible for the 2028 SA recruiting cycle. However, in order to do so, I would be a part-time student in Spring 2027 and Fall 2028 (last semester). I would take 2 classes in Spring 2027 and only 1 in Fall 2028. I can make this plan work financially, but my concern is that Banks/Firms will see me as trying to gain the system and reject me. I really do want to do this plan as it will allow me to take full advantage of what my target school has to offer, but if people are going to view it as a huge Red Flag, then maybe I shouldn't. Also, if you know me in real life, you definitely know who this is.

I'm targeting MM IB and BB CIB/CB. One issue that I have is a lack of experience and networking, but that will be solved by the time the next cycle rolls around. If I push back my grad date, I already have things lined up.
My classes would look something like this to make this simpler...
S2026 FT -> F2026 FT -> S2027 PT (2 Classes) (IB/CB recruitment) -> F2027 FT -> S2028 FT -> Fall 2028 PT (1 Class).
I have personally done this because of a multitude of factors and have known others who have done the same. Do not overthink this, if you want to try the career path and that is the reason why you extended your graduation it is a valid excuse and shows that you actually care.
Out of curiosity, did it work out for you?
I had previous internships but wanted to add a semester to my undergrad degree (study abroad, getting the job I wanted,etc). I basically just re-recruited as if I were still my sophomore self, and was able to go through the process again.
Not sure what school you're at but I have friends at UCLA and Cal that did this/said it's very common for kids to do this and place since they take so many transfers. I wouldn't overthink it. Banks don't look at transcripts until you're getting brought on for full time in most cases, and nobody is going to care about your courseload. I have a friend who did 8 units for two semesters in a row while recruiting if it makes you feel bettte.r
I am at USC. I pushed back recently. I just hope the December Graduation doesn't raise a red flag. I am going to target lower bulge brackets and mm banks. My one worry is that my GPA here is around 3.75 since it has been a little rough start here. At my previous school, I had a 3.97 at a solid Patriot League school.
One of our incoming SA26 interns did this from a non-Vandy/UT SEC school and nobody even brought it up at all. Won’t matter, but could just see it putting additional pressure on actually landing something & getting the RO since you won’t be on normal timelines when FT recruiting.
