Could you please elaborate how did you manage to get your first SA/Analyst stint without any relevant experience and a non-core school?
Relevant experience for me was working on a congressional committee the prior summer. The focus of which was the same as when I started working FT.
Coming out of banking, which skills do you wish you developed more? Which skills do you feel banking best helped you develop? Lastly, any particular advice for someone at a lower BB looking to transition to a HF? Thanks!
Good question - I wish I had developed more conceptual understanding of finance. But the experience was more focused on process and running the deal. And that's great bcz that's what a banker does but there was a learning curve for sure in actually working as an investor. I also wished I'd learned more about competitive analysis and how to compare different industries for growth potential.
Networking advice for kids coming out of non cores?
Find the people that have made it from your school and lean on them. More likely than not they'll be more than happy to help you but be ready for lots of follow up bcz they're busy.
