Questions to ask

I'm sure many of you have been on both sides of interviews, coffee chats, networking calls and whatever you want to call them. What are the questions you appreciate more to hear?Feel free to share examples and experiences on how to make an impression the first time meeting someone. Many thanks!

For interviews: In my opinion, the goal of those last few minutes of questions should be to connect with your interviewer and make them like you more, and show that you'd be someone cool to work with. Because of this, the basic rule of thumb is to avoid being robotic and boring, asking the same questions that everyone asks. Usually, my strategy is to ask questions based on something the interviewer said when they introduced themselves (usually works and can start a conversation). If the answer they give isn't going somewhere and I have nothing to connect on, I usually ask either "What's your biggest takeaway being at the firm", or "What are your interests outside of work." from here you can usually fill in the last couple of minutes. Something else I have done is if the whole interview fits a theme (ex. a discussion on m&a), I would ask them questions about their perspective, etc. If you still can't harp or connect just try your best to come across energetic and always smile no matter what. Worst case, they don't expect you to say anything crazy out of this world.
