Reading Recommendations
I don't know if it's because I'm so new to this forum or just incompetent, but I'm lost as to where to start with finding reading material to build my knowledge base on investment banking.
I'm a rising junior financial economics major and feel like my school is not preparing me at all for after graduation as I read these forums. A lot of what is being discussed I've never even heard about...
If anyone can link me to must-reads or threads that have already broached this subject, I would be very grateful. From the very basic/ start all the way up, I'm hungry to really delve into the lit of the industry. It would be optimal if the readings were online and free, but trips to the library aren't out of the question.
Sidenote: What reputable IB firms in the Cincinnati area would you recommend I could reach out to and broaden my network while I'm home from school? That is if you know of any.. I've already heard that I definitely need to get out of the area to get into the industry, and I plan on it. Also, I'm supposed to be getting a phone call on Friday (tomorrow) from a banker at Ross, Sinclaire, & Associates in Cincinnati. Any thoughts on this firm? He is an alumni I cold called yesterday. Once I got past his receptionist and introduced myself to him, he bluntly came out and asked if I was calling for an internship or what I was doing. I was a little taken aback but I do realize he's hard pressed for time. I responded that I just wanted to talk to him about investment banking and any advice he could share. He told me to email him my resume and that he would call me on Friday. I can't help but think that this must be the typical way to get off the phone with a student. Any thoughts? I guess I will find out tomorrow...

Can't speak to the Cincinnati situation...
p.s. try to look around a little. Most people aren't gonna be willing to help those that don't at least try to help themselves first (hence no replies)
Good luck
ah, thank you sir
Hi Rhinoky,
I am a rising junior as well, but here's a couple of things I found helpful and/or interesting: - First of all, this forum -- first read anything that seems interesting, and then everything else; - Books: Monkey Business, The Accidental Investment Banker (life in IB); Boomerang, The Big Short (you mentioned markets); Investment Banking by Pearl & Rosenbaum is a staple/must (technical book); - Outlooks (you can find these easily online) for specific industries you are interested in;
That's off the top of my head, and should at least be a good start. I'm pretty much trying to break in just like you, so I am in no way an expert, but feel free to PM me if you have more questions, I might be able to help. Cheers!
