Received Offer - HR Won’t Sponsor

Hey guys - I received an offer from a US bank and unfortunately HR is unwilling to sponsor. For context, I’m a Canadian citizen who would need a TN.

The team / bankers are fine with any solution, so long as HR gives the green light. Was curious if anyone has been in a similar position and was able to navigate successfully? I’m pretty stressed as it’s been a super tough full-time recruiting market and would be incredibly grateful for any insight or advice. Thanks!

Have you told the team that hired you that HR is unwilling to accommodate? If you have good connectivity with someone senior on the team you should appeal to them to go make a case for you.

End of day, HR likes to think they’re some “by the book” group of people, but they’re corporate shills that’ll bend whichever way anyone with a modicum of influence tells them to

I am in a similar situation where I have received a job offer from a BB that will not sponsor my visa/put me in the lottery for the h1b. However, they have no issues with me using my three-year STEM extension and working for them. which is bs why i am struggling to get FT

edit: do you mind sharing which one you were or providing a few for context it would be helpful

I am someone that got my company to move me from Canada to the U.S. and I actually got a greencard.

Firstly, TN is not sponsorship. Under Trump he made it significantly harder for Canadians to work in the U.S. Prior to Trump you could go down using a TN under the "Economist" option, which was a very loose / BS definition. Since then, it has been exponentially harder.

I went through a full process with a BB and they "hired me" but it fell apart with HR after the fact due to the visa issue, so this definitely is an issue.

Congrats on the offer. Above covers most of the points.

I don’t know how many HRs are involved, but there is generally one senior HR that actually knows what TN is.

You should iterate to them that TN is not sponsored by the firm, and all the bank needs to do is just hire an immigration counsel for some paperwork (with assistance of HR).
