Research to IB pipeline w/in Specific Industry (Energy)
Hi all,
Has anyone here lateraled from a research firm into IB within a niche field?
For context, I just graduated from a target (Ivy League) in economics and am starting at the largest boutique research firm in the energy/power space. Lots of developers and infra PE as our clients and I'll have decent exposure to them. Have five internships from undergrad, various fields (consulting/corporate banking/startup) but none in my desired geography so didn't take any returns.
Postgrad, am realizing that the PE track, specifically energy transition/renewable energy PE, is what I really want and most firms in that space recruit out of IB. I'm considering lateraling about a year in, either to a boutique bank or specific BB group, with the pitch that I know the market better than their current analysts.
How feasible is this? And any broader thoughts on this path vs. project finance vs. going straight to PE? First post here, so all advice is appreciated. Thanks!
