Retracting resignation

Resigned from my BB this week due to mental health and burnout. No gig lined up - I just felt that I had no other option other than to hand in my notice. Unfortunately, I had immediate regret after realizing that I may have just tanked my entire career by doing this.

Is it worth asking HR for another shot or to extend my end date? Realize that I'm going to get heavy monkey shit for this post but I really felt at the end of my rope physically and mentally before giving my notice. Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Are you already terminated? If not, I would email HR ASAP asking to take a temporary leave of absence instead. Also tell your group head or whoever you discussed the resignation with.

I take it you haven't performed very well? Otherwise I doubt you'd have to wonder if they'd have you back.

idk, banks are currently often quite delighted at voluntary turnover as it helps their headcount issues

No, I haven't left yet.

Unfortunately I think it's unlikely that they consider the request. I was not a poor performer, but as another poster said, banks are trying to reduce HC and I just helped them by resigning. Have no idea what to do since my ultimate goal was early stage investing, which may no longer be possible after leaving early.

This is why you always need to take a few deep breaths and think about the consequences of quitting

I have come very close once. Had a bad weekend with personal stuff and then got crushed the next week. Got some comments at 1am and nearly considered quitting… however I thought about how hard I have worked for this, needing to pay rent etc. and just had to man up.

I get the anxiety, but you left for a completely valid reason... you certainly have not tanked your entire career in the slightest. You will land somewhere just fine with great BB IB experience behind you. That is worth something to a LOT of companies.

Take a month or two off and just chill and then start recruiting for better jobs.
