Clarification............

I can't drop it because 1) I need the units 2) the chances are extremely low (I need to petition)

No. the D won't keep me from getting my degree.

Will a D automatically disqualify me from a top 25 b-school? Can I make it up with a strong gmat or good references?

^ Yeah I obviously know that, but I screwed up this quarter in terms of grades, hence I'm trying to be more realistic here.

The bschool question depends on who this offer is from (i.e. is it Bain/Goldman or an unknown boutique), your GMAT, and your overall gpa. if you had a 3.9 and you're dropping to a 3.8, it hurts much less than a 3.5 dropping to a 3.4.

Does your school have pass/fail? Even with a D on the midterm you can definitely work your ass off the last couple of weeks and/or suck up to the teacher and pass.

Also, I've never heard of someone getting an offer yanked for bad grades - I've had a couple of friends who were initially 3.7s and ended up with one C and were fine.

One of those lights, slightly brighter than the rest, will be my wingtip passing over.

^ Yes I explored the NP/P option, but if I get a NP (below C-), I won't get the units. I need units. Not willing to take the gamble.

Begging for a higher grade is very unlikely. This prof has no sympathy at all. Also, to clarify. I got an F (like nuclear bomb ...20%) on the midterm, not a D.

You are burying the lead...how the fuck did you get a 20%

^Yea man. Im slacking off now and I still pull B's - B-'s w/o studying. Not saying I'm smart but 20% is pretty low...

Anyway to answer your question, I heard they dont care as long as you graduate, without a significant drop which I assume is below a 3.0 If you think about it, you prob had a 3.7 or so, how low can you drop? Even if you end up with D's this sem its pretty hard to drop to anywhere near a 3.0

it wont matter for the offer which is what i thought this post was about. if youre question is about b school - yes that type of performance is pathetic and will impact your future significantly unless you turn it around quick.

Basically, as long as you get your degree they won't rescind your offer. That being said, grades matter in your transition to the buyside after banking and in application to any advanced degrees.

So, while as long as you pass they probably won't revoke your offer, keep up your GPA. I know people who got C averages their senior year and didn't have their offers revoked.

--There are stupid questions, so think first.

If you are considering B school, or are planning to make a move in the next 3-5 years from your IB position, you should absolutely try to keep your grades up, as they will be considered for your next position - whether heavily considered or not, they will be considered, and for B school especially you'll want to keep your grades up if you can. That said, strictly in terms of your offer, as long as your grades don't completely fall off a cliff, or you are unable to graduate on time - as in you get a bunch of Fs in some required courses - your offer should be fine.

I swear, this question reminds me of College Confidential when kids would ask about what terrible GPA they could keep and not get rescinded from [Insert Ivy League school here].

Too bad it matters even less now.

Wow it's been years since I've been on CC...

I still remember when that 60 yr old Harvard troll (forgot his name)use to go on every other Ivy's forum and assert H's superiority.

Good times.
