Rhodes Scholar to investment banking
Suppose I get accepted as a Rhodes Scholar right out of undergrad and I study at oxford for 2 years. If my intention is to pursue investment banking, would I apply as an associate?
Similarly, If I get accepted as a Schwarzman scholar right out of undergrad and I study at Tsinghua for 1 year, would I also apply as an associate even though the masters program is only 1 years?
Basically, would I apply as an associate vs. analyst
That would be like Jeff Bezos getting an internship at Microsoft.

The Rhodes is way more competitive and prestigious than working at IB... It'd be crazy to go from that/having all those options to being an excel monkey. *Maybe* if you were asking about HFs, PE, etc. which are better paying for sometimes fewer hours but IB... really

Masters is always analyst especially out of UG
You'd be very competitive for summer analyst positions as a Rhodes Scholar, although if you can get into that you can probably also get into IB directly from undergrad

And now he's a pretty influential US Senator from an important state? I'm ambivalent on the guy and on NJ but having former Rhodes Scholars become internationally known politicians doesn't seem like the program "isn't what it used to be."

Again, why is he an idiot? People love to jack themselves off to target schools on this forum and the guy went to Stanford, Oxford, and Yale. Disagreeing with their politics or how they conduct themselves in the media doesn't make them dumb. If you take half a minute to read the guy's Wikipedia he doesn't strike me as dumb in the slightest. Other party example is Ted Cruz, apparently nobody in either party likes him but he's clearly a smart and savvy politician.
I’m not saying he’s dumb because he’s a liberal. Literally watch any of his interviews or how he conducts himself in senate hearings and compare them to someone like Ted Cruz or Ben Shapiro or Alan Dershowitz. Has nothing to do with politics or schools. Shapiro went to UCLA undergrad but is brilliant and is far smarter than me or anyone on this forum tbh. I’m sure he could’ve gone to Stanford if he wanted. Point is that schools don’t make the man, especially now given how subjective admissions are.
Good luck getting a Rhodes if you’re even considering doing IB after...same for Schwarzman, where half the applicants are coming out of IB/MBB

C'mon man...if you're a Rhodes scholar, please don't waste your time in IB. My older brother was one and he joined McKinsey after, and he always said he wished he did something more impactful...

Unless you have a solid plan for a start-up business or non-profit, I’m not sure there’s much out there that would beat working at McKinsey or GS coming out of school.
Yeah you have to align logos and whatnot, but assuming you have the intellect and drive to be a Rhodes Scholar, it’s a good starting spot to wind up in a position where you’re influencing policy, businesses or capital flows in a big way at some point down the road.

In fact, I would even argue that unless you have grand plans and are capable of executing them (like running for political office, become supreme court justice) you should avoid prestigious scholarships like Rhodes. They are a waste of time. I picked up a Truman scholarship out of college and turned it down because I didn't want to go spend a year getting a Masters immediately after UG. I mostly arrived at this contrarian conclusion by listening to Peter Thiel: "All Rhodes Scholars had a great future in their past."
Basically, nothing beats work experience. Not matter how prestigious the institution or fellowship. It also helps to know a few of these Rhodes/Marshall Scholars.. nothing special. People like Booker and Buttigieg would be in their shoes regardless of whether they won a Rhodes.
McKinsey by far employs more Rhodes Scholars than any company in the world. I wouldn't just dismiss that
