Rice vs UT Business Honors

Hello, I’m an incoming college freshman and I need to decide between Rice and UT’s Business Honors Program (Canfield). I’m interested in startup tech and investment banking though I’m currently undecided and I’m not sure about my long term goal. If I choose Rice, I would double major in Operations Research and Finance, while at UT I would only major in Finance. The cost is roughly the same at both schools each year. I’d really appreciate any advice on this subject.

They're both very different schools. Both have solid placement across Houston & NYC. Rice places at all Houston banks and NYC recruiting has really ramped up with placement at Perella, JPM, GS, Centerview, and other strong banks. Probably a bit more of a pipeline to NYC from UT but you can definitely make it at both schools. I'd focus more on the school fit portion - are you interested in frats and bigger parties and a much louder social scene? Or do you prefer Rice being more relaxed, quirky, and a good yet quieter social scene? The schools have very opposite vibes, I'd suggest focusing on the one where you have better fit.

Rice had its best year of NY & SF placements yet and has been steadily improving. For top placement, its almost all or nothing when it comes to getting into Wall Street for McCombs (the club). I'd lean rice, but consider fit of school and your personality more than anything

From experience UT Austin has much easier placement into NYC banking now that multiple pipelines are established. Don’t even necessarily need to be in WSFM to benefit either so I’d say it’s a no brainer
