Ridiculous BMO volunteering event

Currently working in BMO commercial bank in the US, but heard story from friend who works in corporate banking about a volunteering event where they were tasked with pulling weeds in someone's yard. It was 87 degrees, and they worked for three hours straight. He said he felt like he might have stumbled onto private property, and the situation felt uncomfortable as the owner of the house had no clue and was not expecting the group. The owner of the house was quite strict about them not putting down their tools, and several people started feeling light-headed. Despite this, the person managing this event didn’t address the situation or offer any support to those who were about to pass out from the physical exertion and heat. This doesn’t seem to align with what I’d expect for a well-managed volunteering event, where participant safety and comfort should be prioritized. Additionally, multiple people were hospitalized. Is this even allowed???

Whenever I read these kinds of comments, I picture a little, rotund, choleric man hunched over, rapidly typing with his stubby sausage fingers.

"owner of the house had no clue and was not expecting the group. The owner of the house was quite strict about them not putting down their tools"

So the owner had no clue they were going to working on his house and then all of a sudden he finds out and then won't let random people he doesn't know stop? What type of janky event is this? Also, this was just some random dude's house? How was it picked? Was it in a run down part of town or something?

Never said I was an intern. This post is referring to my friend who is currently an intern who experienced the event. I never did.

That thread was a completely different incident relating to me that has been relayed already to where it has to go.

Reminds me of the volunteering events we had to do in my fraternity that the university highly pressured everyone into. It was called “fall cleanup” and it was supposed to be just cleaning up leaves in elderly people’s yards. We always ended up being assigned to some healthy 60 year old that wanted free landscaping/junk removal work. Lots of scummy people take advantage of those volunteering programs.

Yeah the organization was absurd, definitely very confused on how the company picked this event.

I picture all the olds muttering "fuck them kids" while you do their dirty work
