Rising Junior Seeking Advice (SA 2026)

I'm a current rising junior at a decent target school (Michigan/ND/UVA) and I am interested primarily in IB/HF roles. Unfortunately I had some health issues this past semester that caused my gpa to drop from 3.9 to 3.6 and negatively impacted my recruiting. I wasn't able to secure any offers for SA 2026, or any internship for this current summer, and I'm currently stuck working some random minimum wage job for the summer.

I'm kind of bitter about how things turned out but I realize that ultimately nobody cares and it's up to me to make the best of this shitty situation. I'm wondering whether or not to continue pushing for IB, or if I should just drop it and pursue some other area. I'd really appreciate any advice -- thanks so much!

Hey man, totally understand how you feel. That said, it isn't over. Keep your head up and trust that things will go well. As of now, your best bet is to be proactive in networking, building connections, and practice your technicals/behaviorals. There are some boutique shops still recruiting from now until Fall that pop up via linkedin or Handshake so look into those. There are also very few spots that reopen time to time at MM/BB but usually are competitive so would try to network to stay in the loop.

If you want, you could either try to get any good internship in finance and look into FT recruiting or delay your grad year, which judging by the post could be a good idea since you missed out from health issues. That said, keep trusting in yourself and everything will turn out how it should.
