Rolling Comps
Hi all,
I am currently working on a case study for a long only interview. I am currently looking to do rolling comps, is there any way I can do this without access to CapIQ or Eikon on my personal?
How do you do this for your case studies?
Thank you
Based on the most helpful WSO content, if you don't have access to CapIQ or Eikon, there are still ways to perform rolling comps for your case study:
Company Filings: The most accurate way to gather data is by pulling directly from company filings such as 10-Ks, 10-Qs, and annual reports. This method ensures precision but can be time-consuming, especially if you're working with a large set of comps.
Equity Research Reports: If you have access to equity research reports, these can be a great resource for financial metrics, industry insights, and valuation multiples. Use keyword searches in your research portal to find relevant reports.
Publicly Available Data: Websites like Yahoo Finance, Google Finance, or Morningstar can provide basic financial data and valuation multiples. While not as comprehensive as CapIQ or Eikon, they can serve as a starting point.
Networking with Bankers: If you have relationships with bankers or professionals in the industry, you can ask them to share their latest comps pages. This approach can save time and provide you with up-to-date data.
Manual Spot Checks: If you're using data from a secondary source, ensure accuracy by spot-checking key metrics like EBIT or EBITDA against company filings. This step is crucial to maintain reliability in your analysis.
Excel Templates: Create or use pre-built Excel templates to organize and calculate rolling comps. This can streamline the process and make it easier to update data as needed.
If you're pressed for time, consider doing a mix of manual data gathering for a few key comps and using secondary sources for the rest. This approach balances accuracy with efficiency.
