Series 63 & 79
How long did it take for you guys to study for the 63? I have to take it soon for my firm and I’m using Knopman Marks. I read the whole book and am just starting the practice questions and videos. Then have to take the 79. I know I should have done the 79 first but it is what it is now. Any advice appreciated
I took the 63 in about a week. I used Kaplan and just focused on taking practice exams over and over again. That test is mostly memorization anyway.
how many hours a day did you study? thanks!
A few hours a day. I just kept taking practice tests until I was scoring in the 80s.
Just do as many questions as you can for both. For the 79, read the summary marks gives you. Read it once a day. It’s like 40 pages but trust me, it helps. And do over 1000 questions. You want to be able to see every type of question they can ask you. 79 is harder than 63. So pass the 63 after about 3-5 days of studying and get on the 79.
63 is super easy and better to start with than the 79 imo because you get a feel for the test and questions you'll be asked on the actual exam. Just get to passing on the 63 questions, knock it out and work on the 79. Read the Marks summary and make notes of what you're getting wrong and go back and reread that and write it out if need be. Good luck!
Full weekend of studying was all I needed for the 63, it's pretty easy compared to the 79. I took the 79 pre-SIE but don't waste your time reading the book, just do a run through of the tests and quizzes a good number of times after reading the Knopman notes and you should be good to go. Try not to have any downtime between studying and taking the test, spend a few weeks consistently (consistency is key to keep the material fresh in your mind) going over the material and take the test immediately once you feel ready.

I also have Knopman and will be taking the 63 soon. So essentially skip the book and instead just do the practice problems and read the class summary?
For the SIE and 79 I only used videos which were enough so do you think that method would work if I include the class summary and practice problems as well? Honestly, that book is just a lot.
Hey man just bumping this to see if it worked for you?
Going through Knopman and have to take SIE, 79 and 63 (sticking to that order for doing the exams). Books are too much for these exams lmao so would you say using the videos, knopman notes/summaries and then doing practice tests is enough? I have received the material but haven't started the role yet and I have an initial 4 week training program first. Does the bank instruct you to wrap these exams in those 4 weeks ? Or do I need to start studying before training kicks off?
The Parent Organizations provide outlines:
63: https://www.nasaa.org/exams/exam-content-outlines/series-63-exam-conten…
79: https://www.finra.org/registration-exams-ce/qualification-exams/series79
I have found these to be helpful to guide studying.
Thanks man this is super helpful. Just out of curiosity, do u do the 63 & 79 exams once training has kicked off (July) and do you typically finish up on the exams in 4 weeks? Or do most people take longer than that? Have also seen people take the SIE before training has even started? Whats the industry norm for incoming analysts for these 3 exams?
