Series 79 as a resource
This is random but i wanted to see your take on this. Someone told me to get a series 79 book (knopman) and use it as a prep resource/reference book (for key concepts/topics/technicals). What do you guys think about this? (I'm an undergrad).
Pretty hefty cost to buy the whole book just for the few relevant chapters. Most relevant stuff that I recall from the 79 is just process and timing of a typical deal. I’d just watch videos and do some Google searches on the M&A process for a better use of your money
I was able to find the book for $30, that’s why i considered it. Seemed like a good deal if there’s any value to it.
If you don’t mind the $30, then yes I think there’s value. I studied during my first month on the desk using Knopman and it gave me pretty solid context to the other work I had going on.
You’ll probably have to take it eventually too anyway so it can’t hurt
Sounds good then, i’ll give it a try. Appreciate it!
Honestly I would say don't waste your money. Nobody is asking the specific information needed to be licensed during an interview. R&P, a few question guides and a corporate finance book are all you need. If going for a product-focused group then supplement (e.g. leveraged loan primer for LF/FSG).
Look up Rosenbaum and Pearl, Investment Banking. Find the PDF. You can use it online or go to campus and print it. Don't waste money on the 79 materials.
