Should I leave banking to do Healthcare to maybe come back as associate in coverage?

Question - I have previous industry experience at a boutique IB (company's were pre-rev so minimal modeling), corporate banking Lev Fin, and a RE PE/Hedge Fund firm. I am getting older and am not anywhere as stable as I would like. My thought is I would get my masters in science at Emory (my undergrad is from a state-school), work in healthcare for a couple years and if I want, come back into a healthcare coverage group as an older associate. I need more stability in life right now and am fearful that I am not as strong as other candidates amongst layoffs etc.

Have people done this before where they leave banking to work in the industry of their coverage group and then come back to banking?
