Should I refuse a coffee chat because of an obvious typo in an email?
AN2 at a boutique MM IB and we starting to recruit for interns, I've been reached out to by a few students for a coffee chat and one of them reached out in an email saying "...would like to discuss opportunities at XX". The problem is that my firm's name is actually "YY". It seems as though this student has been mass emailing a few of firms with this template and forgot to change the name to suit.
Thoughts?
No shot of a response, only exception would be if they have an actual connection to me.
Follow up question then would also be should I response letting him know of the typo?
Just delete. I ignore/delete LinkedIn requests from people who didn't go to my school or don't have a profile picture. I accept if they didn't go to my school BUT are going to be coming to my firm.
That’s just sloppy, guarantee they lack attention to detail.
Lazy/sloppy as fuck. I had someone spell my name wrong once (a common name), which is doubly impressive because it was via LinkedIn which means they were staring right at it.
Kid knows they fucked up and doesn't expect a response. If they really want to speak with you they'll email a new email in a few weeks once you forgot who they are
This ^
That said it doesn’t hurt to be nice and reply
That'd be an easy instant delete and no response from me.
Why do you care so much? Most of the work output done by bankers isn't read by anyone. Your typo on page 32 of the CIM is irrelevant.
If you would have responded despite the typo, make it a learning experience for the person and don't be an asshole about it. If you wouldn't have responded anyway, then you wouldn't have responded anyway and that's that.
Polling an anonymous forum? Banking is such a sorry profession. Act normal like everyone else and stop soliciting anonymous attention for every little nuance in your life.
Bro the guy posting is definitely someone who made a typo in an email and is trying to find out the consequences without directly admitting that he made a mistake in an email because it’s so sloppy and he knows it lol. I had the same thought as you
Yeah this is me, I'm oh so sorry that in my 223rd networking email of the cycle I accidentally forgot to change 'Lincoln International' to 'Raymond James'. I recently signed with a much better bank so feel free to clip me.
