UNPAID!! After College
This is the closest thing to IB experience I have and I don't regret my decision. I'm just wondering what other companies might think when I'm interviewing.
I did the same thing actually. Job market was terrible, and as I was working towards my masters in finance I interned for free at a hedge fund for about a year and a half. I knew I wanted to be in research, and lo and behold I eventually got an offer at a small boutique that I have since worked myself up from significantly. To this day I am most grateful for that unpaid internship after college and my previous PM remains a close friend and mentor to this day.
nope don't lie (either don't tell people what you are or call yourself an analyst as someone suggested above) I find you get a LOT more respect and time if you don't tell people, plus they don't need to know unless it's important. had a fellow intern who regularly used to introduce himself as the intern and always got talked down to as a result...not sure if it was that or because he was an idiot, but he never got invited to do any real work
This is what I'm afraid of. I might end up like your friend and not get anywhere because the title "intern" might not be respected as much. They might not look past that and see the work I've done.
So basically, your suggestion is to not say anything? Just say I work here at X firm? What about on my resume?
what bobthebaker says, just call yourself an analyst...i used to do it, i mean there is technically no position called intern, you are an analyst like the rest just more junior. I'd only ever bring it up if I asked superiors in your team to spend time shadowing other teams to see what they did etc. for the rest no one cares as long as you do your job. if they find out you're an intern later and you did a good job they'll be a lot more interested in keeping you around since you can show some competency and they dont need to babysit you on your resume put analyst, they'll figure out if you're only there for the summer or for an off-cycle program of a few months that you're just an intern.
Dude if your company doesn't care just call yourself an analyst and move on
