No cover letter if it's not required. Just adds more paperwork that the recruiter will have to sort through.
No, because no one reads it. If it wasn’t mandatory, I never included one and never had an issue.
There is only downside to including more than what is asked for. Absolute best case, the recruiter ignores it. Worst case, you fuck something up and drop out of contention.
If you can get someone from the inside to flag your resume, you're guaranteed a first round. Networking is the best way to get in the door, not a cover letter.
