Side Hustle / Working Outside of Banking

Has anyone ever advised on smaller sell-side deals outside of work?

Although small, I was wondering if anyone has ever done deals like this outside of work and just clipped a little fee here or there. I like the idea of working with a founder and helping them get an exit of some type. The business broker space is shit and I feel like the bar is so low that any analyst/associate could jam some materials and run a better process.

Thoughts fellow Chimps?

Honestly have thought of the same; definitely a bit more challenging than said, but doable.

Likely need a team of 2-3 and thats not including the RE licenses you would need to sell any business with leases/real estate.

I haven't had experience doing this / trying / hearing from others but I'd imagine OBA can prevent this from happening if you're just randomly doing similar IB activities that you do every day (sell-side) if its for non-family members. I don't exactly remember the FINRA licensing rules but I think this is more common on investing rather than being the sell-side advisor. Either way I think you have to get it checked out by complience personnel. I have heard of private securities transactions and that can be pretty common with senior bankers
