Sophomore Internship Offer Decisions
Hey monkeys, I've been lurking around WSO for a while and finally decided to ask for some advice. I'm currently recruiting for internships for sophomore summer and I've been fortunate enough to secure an offer from a F500 credit card company (Think Mastercard, Visa, Discover). The only downside is that the offer is in the marketing department, which I'm not interested in as a career, although the role entails a lot of rotation in financial/strategy work. The pay isn't ideal either ($16-$17), but they do offer free summer housing in my target city which makes up for it.
My question is about how this internship positions me up for Junior SA positions. My target industry is management consulting, preferably MBB, although I do plan on recruiting for various BB/EB IBD positions and restructuring teams at HL/LZ. I know that this credit card company is a brand name that does alright for consulting recruitment, but I'm worried that working in marketing might reflect poorly, especially for IB, which prefers boutique experience.
My offer deadline is in a couple of weeks, and I'm trying whether I should just take the offer, or push on and take the risk to keep searching. I do have a couple of interviews lined up with some other F100s (operations/finance), but the process for those interviews will wrap up after my deadline. I'm also waiting to hear back from sophomore programs at BBs and contacts at small boutique shops. Thanks for any help
Stats: Midwestern Target for MBB and Consulting, Semi Target for IBD 3.9 GPA, Non Diversity Freshman experience at Big 4 Consulting
