Sophomore Student Advice

Received a summer offer for a Lower MM PE Firm (aum 900 mil), very close to home (20 min distance) in a small southwestern city.

Really forthcoming people and want to see me do well. My question is, is I-Banking recruiting even worth it if long term most exits are into the buy side?

I have this amazing opportunity to be mentored in a relatively small shop with like 1-2 intake max each year. Let me know given your experience and the people you’ve seen exit if it really even matters anymore.

Fellow sophomore student so take this with a grain of salt, but had a similar situation to you with an offer from a smaller bank that was really rooting for me. Talked to lots of people about it and eventually came to the conclusion that culture and WLB are more important to me than clout/prestige, and to your point, you can get to the buy-side from most banks (just won’t be megafunds, but if you don’t want to be crushed all the time it shouldn’t be a problem). It’s also a relief to be done with recruiting this early, so short-term it’s a win too.
