Sports IB/advisory, how to target etc

Incoming freshman at a mid-target (NYU/Ross/Northwestern). I’ve been interested in finance for a while, and someone I recently connected with (alum of my high school) told me he works at GS’ sports advisory group.

Does anyone familiar with this sector (is that even the right word) of IB know what the top groups are, how competitive they are, and if there are any specific ways to optimize for these roles?

Thanks!

Any views on MS M&C for sports? They have worked on a few RFPs here in Europe.

This probably isn't a popular take here, but if the sports industry is your focus consulting will get you there faster and into a more interesting role than finance. I have several friends who did 2/3 years at MBB and then either went straight into Ops at teams or did an MBA and joined a team. They actually get to think about the business, are liked by the org, and they pay cut wasn't as painful for them.

There are a lot of guys in finance with an interest in sports competing for a very limited number of seats.
