Starting in NY vs the South

I know that I want to live in the south when I am older and as of now plan on continuing a career in IB (given I have only accepted an internship). Would it be better to work in NY as it seems that what most people do or should I try to build a network in the south?

I'd at least start in NYC - work at a BB or EB for a few years, and if you ever want to lateral the southern regional banks will be very happy to have you.

If you start in the South you're either 1. in Houston (and it's hard to get out of oil and gas) 2. in Charlotte (I think only WF still has people there these days, and it's not a great city) or 3. in a better city like ATL but at a small regional bank.

If you find out you don't like banking, BB/EB name gives you a chance to do pretty much anything. Starting in the south makes that a bit harder.
