Steps to Investment Banking, Where Should I Be

Hi Everyone,

Trying to get a grip on what steps I should to take in order to be hired at an IB.

Current Background

Community College Student--> San Jose State (Finance Major) Currently a Junior.

Current Job Title: Solution Specialist, AKA Sales. Been doing it for 4 years and am good at it but not a passion. I make a decent amount as a college student, ~80k depending on perfermance on the year, and employer pays for my school. Dilemma is that I know I need to get an internship in order for these banks to take a look at me, but I cannot take 12 weeks off work to do a summer internship. I can but I don't want to quit a decent paying job with good benefits that allows me to save a ton of money.

What other ways can I prepare myself to be looked at by an IB, are the any certs I can add to my resume?

My GPA in school is good, but with my school not a top rated do you guys think it would be ideal to enter a graduate program ?

Thanks

Few things. 1. your making lets call it 65-80 a year. What is your current work load? if your working 40 hrs or less why do you want to sacrifice it all to make an extra 30k a year. Do you have any passions you could do that could make up that difference in something you truly love?

  1. Most internships are paid and you are in one of the greatest Financial hubs of the world. (... okay your spitting distance from one of the greatest financial huds in the world) . Try an network to the best of your ability... maybe at smaller banks.

  2. I (personally) consider the Masters degree to be the last line of defense. the rest button. I would save it. If your GPa isn't that good it is going to be hard to get into a great school and I would hold off until better work experience is under your belt.
