Striking out for SA recruiting, disillusioned, what to do now

Hi all,

I never post here but it’s looking like I’m not landing anything reputable for SA 2027. For context I go to a lower tier target and have a good gpa, clubs, etc.

I tried my best during networking season but didn’t manage to get as any people on the phone as other did. Nonetheless, I was able to get my first superday at a top BB (GS/JPM/MS) but failed to convert bc of nerves. I another superday at an industry specific boutique which I thought went really well but got cut from there too. I also had a first round at a respected MM shop but didn’t go anywhere. All the BB/EB are pretty much done interviewing. The major MMs are also coming out but I didn’t network at any MMs so I doubt I’ll get looks there.

Everything feels like it’s falling apart, after having put so much work into the process and skipping classes/sacrificing gpa, etc. I don’t really know what to do from here - recruit for smaller PE/GE shops and regional banks that start opening up later in the spring and then try to re recruit for full time? I would really appreciate any advice, as I’m feeling lost and hopeless

First, know that this situation is so so much more common than you think. Continue to network and try to get on the phone w every bank that’s left, but if nothing works out, definitely try for Big 4 Corporate Finance/Deal Advisory, ECM/DCM, equity advisory, PE, HFs, etc. if you are sure you want to try again for full time.

In the mean time, my biggest tip is to focus on stacking your resume and focusing on your GOA, as it’s a lot more important thank you think.

start cold emailing random places and you’ll be surprised how far it will take you

Hey man -- tough outcome, but you need to focus on getting back on your feet and networking as much as you possible can. Need to create your own luck, take some time to recharge, and get back at it. Just email every alum you can find and be genuine, and eventually something will come your way
