You might need about 2 weeks to study for the 63...so don't stress about it. Maybe 3 weeks for the 79. Whatever material your sponsoring firm provides will be sufficient, no need for extra study guides. Do you need to take both exams? It never hurts to become familiar with material you will be tested on eventually, so why not start reading ASAP if you have the material? How soon after your start date will your test window open up? Congrats on the job.
I just started working out of undergrad and was able to study and pass with one week of study. It took a lot of energy to study and pass in such a short period of time, but I know I would have regretted studying for the exam while in training or working. Just get it out of the way while you have time.
My BB said I can take EITHER the 63 or 79. Which one is more difficult?
In the offer letter it says Series 79 and/or Series 63. I should just take both right?
no why would you take both if you don't have to.....take the 63 you can pass that in 2 days, the 79 is very time consuming to study for
If you are going into IB, you will need both. The 63 is much easier as it covers less material. I have the 7 and 63 and haven't taken the 79, although a couple of our analysts recently have.
The 63 took me one weekend to study for, which ended up being too much as my grade was way higher than necessary. You should really only try to pass these tests with the bare minimum score, although that's more difficult on the 79 with its moving target passing score.
TechBanking is correct. You will need both the Series 63 and Series 79.
The 63 is much easier than the 79. I spent almost 3 weeks studying for it and that was too much time. With respect to the 79, I spent about 3 1/2 weeks and that was almost too much - although I would say it depends more on how many hours you spend on the 79 versus the length of time.
My MD said that with the 63, you should only study enough to pass. The 79 was different and is a lot more comprehensive and applicable for the job.
