Suing for Diversity?

I'm hearing certain firms won't do coffee chats for non-diverse people, diversity kids can redo interviews, diversity can accelerate with an offer from Subway, there are special programs that lead to a first round, diversity don't have to network, they get exclusive sophomore opportunties (that take no skill to get no offense), can somebody explain to me how helping Becky (attended Trinity/Hotchkiss) from Darien, CT is advancing equality? More importantly, is it possible to sue the firms for this? Am I wrong that this a clear form of discrimination? I have no problem with an underpriveledged kid getting an advantage (in fact I think they should), but when half the kids went to prep school, that is completely wrong (get ready for the Berkshire/Greenwhich kids to disagree)...who's ready for some lawsuits?

Agree. I'm diversity and non-target (black and state school). I had numerous "what the fuck" moments when recruiting for PE because of OP's point. Not sure if there's a strong case, but 100% unfair. Had to come to terms with it eventually and accept that life is just that way, even if blatantly in your face at times. It is what it is.

Yes, but had to ultimately settle after so many of the "what the fuck" moments...by the time I won my offer the happy feeling of winning an offer was kinda gone and it was more of "about fucking time" due to the issues OP described

Funniest

No you better shut up and get with the program. I have gone as far as letting diversity candidates fuck/peg me because I feel so guilty about their oppression.

Everything you said in your post is accurate and I have seen them personally and I can't wait for this shitshow to be over.

It's not about black people in particular... tbh primarily it's white women who went to Buckley/Pingry and then get an additional advantage on top of that. Most people running the programs don't care and just see diversity as skin color/gender. Is it really diversity if everyone is from the top 5%? Of course not. It's blatant racism as well. Imagine if there was a white leaders program (although I'm sure you assume all white people are rich & connected). Your family's wealth is the biggest contributior to your success, so not sure why the programs aren't geared toward income? If daddy pays 73k for you to go to Berkshire, at the very least you will get into a ND/BC, and do well.

And still finance is dominated by white men across the seniority ladder especially on the buy side.

And still misogyny and racism is alive and strong in financial services.

The existence of these programs show you that people are systematically disadvantaged and when companies and applicants participate in these programs they are mercilessly shamed and gate kept out.

Looking forward to the same post next week

The US was 85% white when those guys on the buyside started their firms.

Also please explain what disadvantage the privately educated from an affluent family black kid or white girl has over the poor white or Asian kid from the South. Because they are 95%+ of the people who use these diversity programs/diversity hiring.

Controversial

No thanks. I'd much rather work with the interesting black guy whose dad is some ex-diplomat than Kyle from the trailer park who says "would of" instead of "would've".

I landed a top tier group coming from a trailer park background and absolute pricks like you keep motivating me to work harder, so thanks for that comment.

Unfortunately, privileged weirdos like yourself still populate this industry. But hopefully in the future once things become more meritocratic, losers like yourself won't make it in anymore.

Hope you enjoy ECM (not real banking) how are your exit opps looking btw?

Asian male here. I guess it got worse in the past year or 2 since I graduated.

I find the stories here a little fabricated compared to what I’ve experienced on the desk. BB most of our juniors (in my group) are white men, a few Asian men even. And some diverse folks here and there. Most of them are upper middle class at minimum I think except a few. We generally hire 50 50 in terms of gender but attrition plus exits filters up to mostly male at VP+

seen even double diversity get dinged hard and everywhere. They were terrible candidates failed behaviorals and techs.
