Hey all, been getting rejected from MM banks post-spd. All went well on techs, networked, personable, everything. How do you guys go about securing your superday offer? Was it the fact that you sold yourself more?

Sometimes it’s just a numbers game bro
that's rough, and good techs plus good networking doesn't guarantee it. mergersandinquisitions has a piece on post-interview silence and rejections that makes the point that most of the time it's because you performed "on par" with other candidates, not badly enough to get an outright no but not well enough to win an immediate offer. in a group where everyone on the panel has to agree, the person all of them like the most gets the fast offer, and a lot of the rest end up on hold or rejected. so it can be small differences in fit, not a gap in your skills. what that piece suggests doing: follow up with the analysts and associates you met, thank them, and directly ask for feedback on what held you back, since they're often more upfront than HR. you won't always get a real answer, but even one useful comment on your pitch or your fit story helps you adjust before the next one. also worth recording your interviews, if you can, to hear how your answers actually come across.
thanks a lot, this is really helpful. they actually all were with ED's / VPs, so I prioritized being more personable but will reach out and go back to the drawing board
