h4zinby IBD you mean Corpfin right? are the two basically interchangeable?

(just trying to get used to the lingo still)

I think so. Getting used to the lingo myself.

I chose research b/c I'm very good at it and I enjoy writing and analyzing the market and being correct as well as an expert. But in general, I love banking so it inevitably became a no-brainer for me.

S&T bc i summered in banking and hated the lifestyle, pace, and work

s&t is fun, exciting and still allows you to have a life outside the office

plus you can become a true contributor after a yr or so instead of spending 5+ yrs as an excel monkey in IB

There is no perfect fit. I have an S/T intern in a CorpFin/IBD role. It's pretty cool to see how the different sides interact. My best advice for those on the line is to network with people on the different sides. Figure out what fits you the best. During interviews, they want you to be happy and want to make sure you've done your homework. So, all this networking is going to help you get that summer internship/full time offer.

IBD/CorpFin are interchangable depending on bank. Figure out what the bank you're interviewing with uses (it's broken down on the careers website) and keep that staight. Same thing with group names. i.e. FICC (fixed income currency commodities) is a goldman acronym only

Chose banking (M&A) because I find it interesting to learn about different companies and industries. The hours weren't scary enough to push me to do S&T (Don't think I'd ever do Research). Also, I'm looking to go to a top b-school, like everyone else, and want the strongest work experience I can get.

For all 1st and 2nd analysts, regardless of IBD or S&T will have the same compensation band.

Research is probably similar, though I haven't asked anyone in research for 1st hand, because I'm in research interning and I'm scared to ask.
