Taking Drunk MD Seriously

Hey guys,

I just finished my sophomore summer at a small boutique IB in Toronto. After my last day, I went out for drinks with one of the MDs I had worked with during the summer. He got pretty hammered by the end of it (think he was drinking at lunch too lol). Anyways, he went on to say that I was a great analyst and that if I wanted to work at a bigger place next summer, he could put me in touch with some of his friends in the industry.

I don't know whether I should send him an e-mail now and take him up on his offer. He was really hammered when he was showering me with compliments and was sort of a dick for the whole summer (didn't even think he liked me that much haha).

So what should I do? Fire an e-mail and see what happens or forget about it?

I don't want to burn bridges either. A couple other guys at the bank said they wanted me back so even though I'm not really considering it I don't want it to seem like I'm reaching out to those same people for opportunities elsewhere.

E-mail him and thank him for the drinks. Tell him you had a good time and reference something you guys talked about/joked around about in the convo when you were both wasted.

Tailor the reference towards the whole thing about putting you in touch with another firm.

Unless he's a complete ass, he'll probably be able to remember and try to keep his word.

A drunk MD is the most real MD.

Maybe the MD thought you were stuck up, annoying biatch most of the summer. But once you got some beers in you and him, he found out ehhh "this kid ain't that bad, I can keep boozing with him". Now he knows your really $$$.

Anyone can excel at excel, but being good company when your MD wants to booze and being good at excel is key.
