Talking back to seniors

There is a senior on my team whom I’m supporting because, long story short, he’s a dogshit manager and his entire team quit on him. I’d like to reiterate that I just support him, he is not my manager nor do I report to him. He has a tendency to blame me for things that are not my fault and throws me under the bus constantly, not to mention, a major shit talker. He often goes on diatribes lecturing me on things that would otherwise be totally avoidable, but as said before, he’s dog shit at his job. I have begin talking back to him and trying to call him out when I believe he’s wrong. Am I, an analyst, in the wrong to do this? I would NEVER do this to my actual manager even under the same circumstances because the man determines my future and bonus, but I have 0 patience for this fuck and his moronic antics.

Should I just swallow my pride and shut up?

Ah, the old office politics, a jungle in its own right! It's a tricky situation you're in, my friend. On one hand, you don't want to be a pushover, but on the other, you don't want to stir up unnecessary conflict. Here's my two cents:

  1. Keep your cool: It's easy to lose your temper when you're constantly being blamed, but remember, you're in a professional setting. Responding with anger or frustration can make you look bad, even if you're in the right.

  2. Document everything: Keep a record of instances where you're unfairly blamed. This can be useful if you need to escalate the situation or defend yourself.

  3. Seek advice from a trusted superior: If you have a good relationship with a higher-up, it might be worth discussing the situation with them. They could provide valuable advice or even intervene on your behalf.

  4. Stand your ground, but be diplomatic: If you're being blamed for something that's not your fault, it's okay to defend yourself. Just make sure you're doing it in a respectful and professional manner.

Remember, every situation is unique and there's no one-size-fits-all solution. Use your best judgment and stay professional. Good luck navigating the jungle!
