Targeting tier 1 banks is dumb

I really find it hard to understand why people are obsessed with working at GS/EVR. First, no one gives a shit about which bank/group you are working at.

Students should target newly established / Growing boutiques that have small team, but of course, you should make sure that the founders / Seniors have robust experience. The upside there could be extremely high.

Same thing with the MM MF PE debate. You might make more in your first few years in MF, but in the long run, your chances of generating wealth is higher in MM.

a) Not everyone wants to stay long-term in finance so Tier 1 = better exits; usually people outside finance also know them. Not the case with MM

b) Generally better trainings and more access to people and resources which is important when starting your career

c) Prestige and brands (university, companies, etc.) carry wieght when doing business, so I think that someone who moves from a tier 1 to a MM will do better long-term

I agree. I’m actually at a good BB (not Citi), but I still couldn’t care less about the name.

Hard enough to land a spot in this industry, it’s silly for people to be picky IMO.
