Technology M&A
Hey everyone:
Can some of you who are more familiar with Tech M&A point me towards good news sources/web sites where one can learn more about technology and tech M&A?
Also for anyone who has gone through the interview process for a Tech group: What are some tech questions that came up when you interviewed?
Thanks!
It is not specific to M&A, but a good resource for technology news is BGR.

Check out the business section in particular. I found it helpful while preparing for tech M&A interviews.
I wasn't aware of that site. Thanks.
All Things D and Tech Crunch are my two favorites. Both include general market developments, in addition to deal stuff.
It's good to know what the broad trends are that are currently impacting the industry - convergence, the cloud, smart phones, e-commerce, etc.. The latest Mary Meeker presentation would be a good place to start; a new one was just released in the past week. Beyond that, be able to explain why you have a specific interest in the tech sector. You may be asked what some of the "hot" areas are that should see a lot of activity going forward.
I was aware of Tech Crunch, but did not know All Things D - thanks!
As far as general trends go: What do you think about something like the PwC Technology Industry Report? Thanks for the MM stuff btw.
Also, when answering the "why tech", would you suggest that one goes with the usual format also used in why banking?
I used Gartner to do some research while i was working in a tech m&a group. I actually did not get any tech related questions in the interview process besides why did i want to be in the tech group.
great tip, thanks
Can't hurt to read the PwC report, but it's not something that I view as particularly important/insightful. Aren't they mostly CEO/CTO surveys about company spending on enterprise software? Maybe I'm missing something....
Why tech is pretty easy, particularly if you actually have any real interest in it. Say that you've always had an interest in it, you love gadgets/gaming, got involved with computers early (probably less of a differentiator now for those of you in the 30 crowd, most of you weren't born back when I was rocking it on freenets with a 2400 baud modem).
If you have any programming experience, mention that. Say that you like how it is dynamic and always changing. You like working with constantly changing trends and developing business models. Maybe you are more attracted to equity financing then debt, which plays less of a role in tech.
Gartner Reports and the magic quadrants are great, if you don't have to pay for them.
Thanks TechBanking
