Template of industry analysis
Hey guys,
I got in touch with a local PE firm to ask for summer opportunity. MD wrote back to me saying that they haven't decided whether they will be hiring for summer. He is gonna hold onto my resume and we should speak in a couple of months.
I'm thinking to keep in touch with him and prepare for an industry analysis for next time. The firm is focusing on healthcare, biotech, etc, which I basically have no clue. It might be a good opportunity for me to learn something as well.
I really appreciate it if you could share some templates for this kind of analysis, especially for PEs.
Thanks!
Geez who are you kids. You don't need to do some unsolicited homework assignment to impress the guy - if anything it would probably make you look a little weird. Sure, spend the next month or so reading the WSJ and a couple healthcare/biotech articles so you could have an intelligent conversation IF IT COMES UP. You really don't have to force it so hard.
The best thing you can do is focus on making the guy like you as a person - after all, he'll have to spend the whole summer with you if he hires you. Maybe next time you see him be able to make an intelligent comment about one of their portfolio companies, or a recent happening in the industry. Be able to ask an insightful question. You don't need some kind of written dissertation.
Keep in touch, and have some knowledge on the industry etc, but like Capt K said, don't force it. Be yourself, and don't bring it up if he doesn't ask about it.
Hey Capt K and Momentum,
Thanks for the insightful advice. I'll keep that in mind. Any thoughts on how to stay in touch with the guy? I used to think to use the analysis or the sorts to keep the communication open..now not sure what to do..
