Those with BYOD Stipends - Is it dumb to use them on an entirely separate work phone?

Incoming analyst at a firm that issues a monthly BYOD stipend for cell phones. Would it be weird / dumb to use my stipend to just have a different work phone altogether? This past summer I had it all on one phone and found it highly cluttered given social media, music, entertainment, group chats, etc. that almost certainly negatively affected my focus when I needed to use my phone for work email, calls, slack, etc. Curious on thoughts from current analysts

My personal opinion is that 2 phones are annoying to deal with - you have to charge 2 phones, pay for 2 phones, carry them around with you at all times (who tf wants to have a brick in their pocket when going out), and it’s easier to lose track of one.

iPhones have good “do not disturb” settings now where you can create a custom profile of what notifications should be silenced - i.e. during work, silence social media notifications. I don’t silence notifications personally, and definitely look at my phone throughout the day.

But if you get distracted easily and don’t mind keeping track of 2 devices, maybe that would be better for you.

If they give you a second phone just for work then would take that. My bank gives option of stipend for BYOD or fully paid for/dealt with iPhone. If not then up to you, really a personal preference.

Agree with the above it can be super annoying to have two phones, especially when carrying around on the weekend. With that said, still think having two outweighs that drawback.

When you’re an analyst you might be the one to set up bridge lines for MPs and other calls, and having a second phone makes it so much easier if you need to call someone else (swear it happens every time).

Also on my personal phone I don’t pick up for random numbers. For my work phone I know to always answer, and that when I’m getting a call it’s probs work related. Same concept of being able to have work notifications on another device.

Lastly, I just get weirded out knowing that the bank puts special software on my personal phone. I don’t know the technology and I know they say they won’t/can’t access anything besides outlook/teams apps but still weirds me out.
