Title - M&A Analyst or Investment Banking Analyst

Hi all,

Hopefully get some insightful opinions on title, see below;

I work as an analyst for an Independent Corporate Advisory M&A firm. Typical mid-market independent. 70% sell-side 20% buy-side, 10% cap raise. 3 partners and 1 chair all ex-big bankers / elite boutiques. New firm only 4 years old, very strong deal flow and punch above their weight. Often win mandates vs bigger peers. Doing typical M&A work, building bidder ready fin models, research, valuations, IM’s, pitching, etc.. the usual.

I need to refresh my LinkedIn and wanted to get my professional branding in order. Perception is unfortunately important in todays day and age.

Should my title on LinkedIn be “Investment Banking Analyst” or “M&A Analyst”. I am the only analyst at the moment, with two interns, 1 associate, 3 principals and 3 partners.

What title translates more in the market / helps for exit opportunities later down the track?

Thanks all!

Even “Investment Banking Analyst” and having M&A in the description portion

Yeah I agree the title they gave me was M&A Analyst. The 2 associates before me used Investment Banking Analyst on LinkedIn before promotion.

One of the principals said use whichever I wanted, and that it’s just a title end of the day.

Just wanted opinions on whether there is a different perception in the broader marketplace on the difference in titles. Keen to hear more, appreciate the above!!
