Torn About Finance (Existential Crisis) - Class of 2027

I'm a sophomore at a target school studying economics, a major which I really enjoy, but I have no idea what I want to do with my life.

Naturally, IB is on my mind since everyone at my school is chasing it, but how can I be sure that's what I want? Sure I find finance interesting and have enjoyed my internships thus far, but I have no clue if this is the kind of work I'd love every single day.

When I look around at my peers, they seem so certain about IB, but I also can't shake the feeling many are just following the crowd. Unfortunately I genuinely cannot think of another good career path besides finance for an economics major like myself who has no cs skills. Since I have to do something, what else could I realistically even do if not IB/finance?

What's adding to the pressure is the timeline: recruiting starts next month, and it feels like I'm being forced to decide my future now, not even halfway through college. If I don't recruit for IB, will I regret it forever? Anyone else feel this way? How do you navigate this uncertainty? For those who chose not to pursue IB, what career paths did you explore, and how did you find them given that schools seemed to be focused only on sending econ kids into finance?

Most people pursuing IB don’t know what they want to do with their life, that is why it’s such a popular career out of school. Gives you a tremendous amount of optionality if you land at a great firm while also getting paid more than almost any other career out of school.
