Went through a process last year with them and received an offer. Here is what I learned from my own research and through that process:

  • Relatively new but reputable growing LMM firm focused entirely on the education sector. Despite expertise, still relatively small deals given boutique-nature of the firm. As a note they have a large strategy consulting arm that operates separately and produces great work focused on education that they can leverage for research in pitches / deals.
  • As far as culture goes, bit of a blackbox. All the folks I interviewed with were thoughtful, but curiously I didn't interview with any juniors during the process. During the pandemic they did a lot of hiring and were working remote, and in Fall last year opened a NY office which supposedly was the first time in office for a lot of junior folks. Analyst class was relatively small from what I recall, I think they said I'd be joining maybe 5 other analysts? However they are looking to recruit more.
  • Supposedly deal flow is extremely high (and I have no reason to doubt it's true) which is why they're recruiting more.
  • I had a few different offers and ultimately decided not to go with Tyton. Among a few personal reasons and as it relates to the above bullet, I distinctly remember the very nice senior team member ask about my hobbies; after we talked about those for a minute or two, he laughed and said "don't worry, you won't have any free time once you start." I'm sure he meant to get across that dealflow is good but that was not the greatest thing to hear in terms of WLB lol.
  • I think my offer was 95k base? And exits are probably to larger IBs and maybe some select LMM PE firms same as any other boutique.
  • As mentioned above, seniors were very nice and I think it's because a bunch of them aren't career bankers / from traditional banking backgrounds. One of the guys I interviewed with spent time in the strategy arm before joining the IB team and another had been in senior management at some education companies.

That's all I got.

Thanks! They did mention a strong deal flow, I am worried about exits as LinkedIn does not seem to show many favorable ones, I'm not seeing any PE ones on there.
