UBS Obsession on This Forum
Okay so admittedly I'm an old head, left banking years ago and came back to this forum a few weeks ago to ask a specific question and have been catching up. I was scrolling the IB forum and realized there were 20 posts in a row about UBS (I'm not exaggerating either). At first I thought I accidentally searched UBS and then I realized this was the main forum.... is this the new bandwagon? Why are there 20 UBS posts IN A ROW? I don't think I've laughed so hard in a while.
I'm not sure why it says "1 new" or whatever because I haven't been on this forum in years so I promise I haven't read them.

It seems like UBS has been a hot topic on the forum lately, and you're not alone in noticing the trend. Based on the most active discussions and threads, UBS has been generating buzz for several reasons:
Recent Growth and Rankings: UBS has climbed back into the Top 6/7 for overall M&A deal flow, as noted in recent league table rankings. This resurgence has sparked discussions about its future prospects, especially in a post-COVID environment where other banks are grappling with high default rates.
Strategic Focus: UBS has been concentrating on specific sectors like industrials, TMT (Technology, Media, and Telecom), and FIG (Financial Institutions Group). Their strong ECM (Equity Capital Markets) group and involvement with SPACs have also been highlighted as key drivers of activity.
Mandate Wins: Current analysts and associates have shared that UBS has been winning a variety of mandates, consistently placing them in the top 10 for deal flow. This has likely contributed to the increased chatter.
Layoffs and Restructuring: UBS has undergone significant changes, including layoffs and a shift in focus, which naturally draws attention and speculation from the community.
Community Bandwagon: Sometimes, a few high-profile threads or posts can create a ripple effect, leading to a surge in related discussions. UBS might just be the current "it" topic, with users jumping in to share their takes or ask questions.
So, while it might feel like a UBS takeover, it's likely a mix of genuine interest in their recent moves and the forum's tendency to amplify trending topics. If nothing else, it's keeping the discussions lively!
