Ultimate End Goal of Networking?

Hi monkeys,

I have read a lot of threads on networking, but all of these posts never seem to outline the main reason behind networking. I understand that you ultimately want to get an analyst/associate on the phone for an informational 30 minute call. After that, you'd ask them for "advice" with the hopes of getting your resume pushed forward to HR.

Is that the end? Sounds a bit too easy to be true or helpful.

If your analyst/associate does forward your resume, there is a high likelihood you will get an interview (assuming high gpa, relevant internships, target)?

Thank you

Thanks for the response. Appreciate it.

Is doing what I listed in the OP enough to ensure this? I'm just not sure...

Say the goal is to get an interview. Is a resume push like I described above with a info call enough?

It can be. Everyone knows you're reaching out for a job. But the more you can establish a human connection with the person you're talking to, the less transactional it feels -- and the more likely it is that person goes to bat for you (in my experience, at least). Also, an MD pushing your resume carries much more weight than an analyst doing the same.

Thanks for the response. I'm actually going to be recruiting for the 2022 cycle, so my plan is to start outreach to smaller boutique PE/IB/AM firms offering sophomore internships right now since I imagine they weren't as hard hit as investment banks were.

Since the recruiting cycle will be over mid-summer for the most part, I plan to start reaching out to BB and other IB individuals towards the end of summer. Hope to get some mentors (via telling them how i'm first gen and no fam in finance) and keep a genuine connection going for a few months until applications open.

Hopefully that helps me grow as a professional and help with interviews.

Is this a solid plan?

Also, I notice analysts reply far more than some senior level people do. Any tips on getting through to them? BTW I'm only contacting alums from my school.

Ty
