What Are Some Of The Best Things About Being An Analyst?

When talking about the life of an IBD analyst, everyone focuses on the amount of hours worked, the lack of sleep, no social life, etc. While banking sounds like a strenuous job, there has to be certain parts that aren't so bad. And yes, money is always a big thing, but there has to be other parts that are enjoyable. So, what are some of the best parts about being an analyst?

@silverbuck898", are you trying to answer the "why IB" interview question? Here's are some general highlights:

  • Compensation (don't mention this one in an interview). There are very few, if any, jobs that pay six figures straight out of college and require no particular skillset or advanced degree. You need no advanced knowledge of math, no advanced knowledge of physics, and no doctorate to enter IB and earn $150,000+ straight out of school. Please do not read this as me saying that those who choose IB are somehow less intelligent.

  • Ability to learn. There is no job out of college the puts you in a position to learn so much about an industry or product as IB does. I think this point is completely blown out of proportion by most people, but it's still worth noting. Don't enter IB thinking that it will turn you into the next Zuckerberg, but you will, at the very least, leave with a very deep understanding of accounting, finance, and what it takes to run a successful business.

  • Soft skills. The attention to detail skills, ability to never settle for anything less than perfection, hustle, ability to always add value (read: always go above and beyond what is asked), etc. that former IBers posses is unparalleled. The closest non-IBers that I have found to this are former military officers.

  • Some others include critical thinking skills, the ability to work long hours, the ability to take something and make the best of it, the ability to think on your own, excellent time management skills, etc.

Hope that helps. I suggest you get an interview guide, though, as this one is covered ad nauseum.
